I grew up within a fundamentalist Baptist denomination where it is believed that not only is Christianity the one true religion, but that their specific view of Christianity is the one true Christianity. I witnessed my whole circle reject me and cast me aside for simply questioning the foundations of the American Baptist Association. It is a rabbit hole we will all find ourselves in if we try to lift the importance of one belief over another. Faith is and should be private. In general, there is no coordinated attempt to end religion among liberals, but there is an attempt to balance the scales.

You see, god was never going to be able to rescue me from my demons, only I was. Our demons, just like our gods, are created in our minds. Mind over matter is certainly something that rings true in the realm of mental illness.
